Just for Fun...

Having never carried a baby this long, I'm discovering what all the complaints are truly about. I remember someone saying when I delivered at 35 and 1, "Man, you got to miss the whole last miserable month!" So, I've now joined the world of stretch marks, swollen ankles, and a closet full of 'maternity' clothes I've outgrown. It also appears he's going to be quite large- although I'm hoping to avoid the ranks of those with horror L & D stories ;o)

So... just for fun... I'm curious to hear the worst thing someone said to you/about you when you were 'great with child.' Yesterday, Nathan took me to a nice restaurant. Our dear friend, Joyce Sagely, took Kathryn overnight to give us a break from what seems to be anxiety-induced insomnia (she comes looking for me 5, 6, 7 times a night- ugh!) So, anyways, upon entering the restaurant, the nicest-looking hostess says loudly to me in disbelief, "So, what'd you do? Swallow a watermelon?!" It made me laugh (lucky for her). So, any anecdotes of your own? Laughs are the best medicine.

Oh, yes. Miscellaneous Tidbit. Of course I don't agree with this quote, but it brought a smile: "Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then when you do, you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes!"

Don't listen to those horror stories - I delivered a nine and a half pound baby and my entire L & D from first contraction till he was out was THIRTY MINUTES! So size of the baby doesn't have to mean a terrible L and D!

Hmmm, coming from someone who got rude comments (mostly from total strangers) for all four pregnancies let's see what some of my (least) favorites were....
"You are only six months!?!? You look like you are ready to go right now!" and then there was "WHAT!?! It's only one, are you sure!?!?!." And then when grocery shopping with three and one obviously on the way, said to me by someone walking by "Hmhp - I sure hope that's the last one!" and the kids weren't even doing anything but being good. I wanted to say, "And you care how many I have why???" But I didn't - I just bit the inside of my cheek and smiled....and at the other rude comments I just laughed...what else can you do - tackle them and sit on them? Hey, now there's a thought...

The all time rudest statement I got was, "My G*d, you're fat!" I simply said "thanks", afterall he was right.

:o) The comments didn't bother me as much as the total strangers who would pat my stomach. That really bothered me - even had a man do it at the grocery store. It's really hard to be kind when they invade your personal space. Hang in there - as my grandma told me - nobody has been pregnant forever.

I'm with Marianne on this one. (although I confess to fits of laughter when reading "phillip brown says......!!!"). I can't really remember a particular comment that bothered me more than others, but it's hard to tolerate strangers invading your personal pregnant space. Even if you are taking up a lot of it. :)

Yeah, and personal pregnant space is a lot bigger than just the average "personal space!" Didn't get a lot of rude comments, but I was shocked many times by a pat on the tummy from a variety of people!

I'm sorry for little Katherine. I'll pray she'll have some rest soon!

Can't wait to hear that the day is here!

For anyone checking back here for news of baby: he has ARRIVED!! I am happy for Charity and jealous of her too. The delivery was fast and smooth. Alex Kenton arrived today, July 26th, and weighed in at 8 pounds, 2 ounces, 20 inches long. Charity sounds great and the baby is healthy. So Praise the Lord for His protection and grace! Welcome to the world, Baby Alex! Can't wait to see you!

To me, the most annoying was when I would waddle into church and someone would say, "You haven't had that baby yet?" I would laugh and say no although inside I was shouting "Isn't that obvious?"

Congrats on the happy news I just read on the comment before mine!!
