Dogs Are Easier!

I've officially entered the toddler potty world. Since I'm a detail-oriented person, I read up on several methods, bought the stuff, even put my desired method in writing. Yes, I know all you experienced moms are laughing already. Well... potty psychology begins. My child has been thoroughly and carefully schooled to go IN a diaper. (Bathtubs can get really yucky when...) Anyways, you get the point. Unfortunately, the training pants that brag of feeling 'just like underpants' feel just like diapers to her. So my poor daughter spent the morning carefully perched on her potty, controlling herself very well. Not a drop! But the second the pull-ups went back on, ahhh- blessed relief! I've not yet mentioned to my very clean spouse that perhaps going straight into regular panties may be necessary. I'm slightly disheartened. Having house-trained a dog successfully deceived me. Kathryn doesn't like the crate...

I love reading your blogs - you have a great sense of humor. I lived in Hobe Sound and watched your husband grow up - was priviledged to attend HSBC and have both of your in-laws as teachers. When I was just a girl they lived at the end of our street, I would walk down to play with the boys. I was just a child but thought I was grown up enough to babysit. I would take Nathan for walks up and down the road, I wanted to carry him and be a big girl but my Mom told me I couldn't pick him up unless he cried. So...I would glance around, pinch his arm hard enough to make him cry and when he did pick him up and carry him! Isn't that awful!?!?! If he displays any unusual character traits when grabbed by the upper arm you'll know why.....

Than you for that confession, Mary Ellen, now I understand him. All this time I thought it was something he ate in all his world travels. Who knew? Charity, please be sure to share those comments with Nate. By the way, just to encourage you, I pottie trained Josiah while I was pregnant for Micah. It was the most stressful week of my life (Perhaps, this is a bit of an over-statement. I was much more emotional than normal when I was pregnant), however it worked and we only bought one set of diapers at a time. So go for it girl. A helpful book is Potty Training 1-2-3. It may help you not beat your head against a wall if Katherine is not "ready" yet.

Response: Nathan says, "Sicko!" Kathryn repeats "Sicko, sicko, sicko..."
I think it's hilarious- of course. I always suspected SOMETHING in his childhood had scarred him for life- now we know. By the way, Nathan claims to not remember a thing. Trauma CAN induce memory loss, I've heard. ;o)

That is hilarious! I don't know why, probably some kind of leftover guilt, but that memory is as clear as a bell in my head - he was probably only about two years old so there's no way he would remember it. I wouldn't have done it in the first place if he would have been old enough to tattle. "-) If you all ever visit Hobe Sound and I see him pinching one of my kids...I'll know why....

Hi Charity, you don't know me but I used to go to church with Nathan at East Lake Bible Methodist when his dad pastored there. I found your blog linked on someone else's. Your blog and comments have been entertaining! That's so funny what maryellen huff said about pinching Nathan!

Your little girl is adorable!

I am potty training my 2 year old boy as well so I feel for ya! We went cold turkey and make him wear those thick Gerber training underwear with a leak proof cover. So far so good. Nothing like getting potty training advice from someone you don't know huh.
Tell Nathan that Kim & Michael Matlock said hi. :-)

Never done the girl thang...Steven was easy, Carson....very stubborn! Consistently in the bathroom every 15 min for 1 week should do it....that is drive you completely insane not a nice little potty trained girl! Good luck. Follow Julia's advice and read the book! It will help! Love ya! By the way, Nate has many more issues than just a pinch from MaryEllen...but it does start to make the picture clearer!

Thanks MaryEllen for you story...I laughed very hard. You may know me..and again you may not. I attend HSBC and was your fathers worst nightmare when it started getting "cold" in FL. I was alway the first one to his office begging for the furnance to be turned on. Once I ask him if he had his heat on in his house...the next night we were toasty warm! Thanks MR. O! I have many more stories!

Does anyone rememer Mr. O's Hair? I can't remember specifics, I know Lois M had something to do with it, and Mr. O showed up at the courts with a ball cap and ponytail not long after.
